Why do vacuum storage bags reinflate?

Slow reinflation is usually caused by an incomplete zip seal, trapped fabric, an unsecured valve, overfilling or accidental damage. A careful inspection often identifies the problem.

The five most common causes

1. The zip is not completely closed. Even a small opening can allow air to return.
2. Fabric is caught in the seal. Move the contents away from the closing edge.
3. The valve cap is loose. Replace and tighten it after removing the air.
4. The bag is overfilled. Reduce the contents so the zip is not under tension.
5. The plastic has been punctured. Inspect areas touching zips, buckles, shelves or sharp corners.

A simple resealing check

Open the bag fully, remove enough contents to leave comfortable sealing room, wipe the closure clean and dry, then close the zip from end to end several times. Check both corners, remove the air again and secure the valve cap.
